Of the Peonies family, it is a rustic flower and of simple beauty widely used in Portuguese Easter processions; a species endangered and cherished by us ..
The charm of this flower lies in its rustic character. Prefers wooded and shady areas, not afraid of stony ground and mountainous aridity. Its simple beauty has been a source of inspiration since ancient times. Rosa Albardeira belongs to the Peonies family and is a special subspecies among the more than fifty species in the world. The flowers, which can reach a diameter of 12 centimeters, are found only in the wild nature of the south and west of the Iberian peninsula. They are used to adorn and color the Easter processions in Portugal, exalted in love songs and widely appreciated and sought after. Picking wildflowers or plants is prohibited by law as the species is threatened. Our seeds come from certified wild collections, where maintaining the original population is a priority. In this sense, we are proud to work on a recovery project for these flowers in Toulões, Portugal's first and only peony village, in Idanha-a-Nova, near the Spanish border, where Rosa Albardeira grows wild under majestic oaks, in the local hills. Germinating seeds and growing plants is a process that requires patience. The reward is to enjoy the splendor of the most beautiful flowers you will see growing.
