10 years - a pumpkin tale part I

When we first started thinking about the logo and the image for what was then our project, there were two elements that we wanted to bring together.

The first one was the label or tag, that I recalled from my childhood memories at the my Grand Parents house, in Régua, a house in the heart of the Douro vineyards, where the Port wine is produced. In that house there was a particular pantry, more of a wharehouse, where there were this large granaries were they stocked the cereals, lkeguminous plants, dried fruits, among other products and where often from the burlap bags you could see this pending tags attached with a simple string with the product name handwritten.

The same kind of tags that I remember seeing in the most traditional Groceries in the city of Porto, also used to identify the products on display.

The pumpkin came from the need to associate the Grocery to a vegetable, as fresh produce represent a very significant part of the products we make available.

And when seen from an upper angle, depending on the variety of pumpkin and even within the same variety, each pumpkin can be unique, just as our finger print that make us all different from everyone else.

In 2014, when we opened up our first store the Mercearia Bio Café, we decided to drop the tag, but we have kept faithful to the pumpkin, that represents somehow what we are and what we have been doing.
